My review of Le Relais Gascon restaurant . On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Paris, I took some of my American friends to the Relais Gascon in Montmartre. It was our frist time there and honestly, we had a blast. In this blog post, I will share with you why this restaurant got an excellent score from my friends and I.

A bit of info about Montmartre

Montmarte is a jewel located in the 18th arrondissement, it is a favorite destination for tourists because it has:

  • An impressive art scene
  • Beautiful cobbled streets
  • Charming homesis
  • very accessible via metro line 12 and 2
  • Lots of great restaurants
  • Souvenir shops
  • Many of its former and current residents are/were well-known public figures such as singer Dalida who used to own a home there until her passing in 1987 as well as Vincent Van-Gogh

My review of the Relais Gascon

They specialize in traditional South West French cuisine that serves dishes for all ages in the heart of Abbesses in Montmartre. For more info on Southern French cuisine click here. The restaurant is very cozy and ideal for a tête-à-tête for couples on a date night.

Menu

The menu is traditional French cuisine. It has dishes that youwould expect at a traditional French restaurant. There are some options to to choose from and the sizes are correct. The menu is written in both French and English which I think is an added bonus for people that don’tread or speak French.

What I ordered

For starters I had the:

  • bloc de foie gras and its onion jam served with a slice of bread. What is foie gras you may ask. Foie gras is a specialty food product made of the liver of a duck or goose . The foie gras was done right. It wasn’t dry but soft and melting in just like it should be.
  • The beef rossini served with potatoes gratin and green beans.

Side not: In France, Some people tend to like their meat sligthly cook on the outside.I don’t. Mine has to be well done on both side and fully cooked just how I likeit. If you don’t like your meat rare or medium rare, I recomend you to speak up before the meat arrives on your table. Just say “well done on both side or” bien cuite s’il vous plait!.

Cost

Their prices are very affordable. Ideal if you are on a budget.

Location

Le Relais Gascon is located at 6 rue des Abbesses and 13 rue Joseph de Maistre.

Conclusion

Le Relais Gascon is a great restaurant for those trying out French cuisine for the first in France. Its location, prices, decor and cosy atmosphere is ideal to spend a great evening among friends or a tête-à-tête . If you are ever in Paris, I recommend it. The restaurant is open 7 days a week. It is located at 6 rue des Abbesses 75018 Paris.
