This restaurant is one of my absolute favorites. When I worked in the area, I made it a point to visit as often as possible. Laïa is a hidden gem in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. It is situated in a historic building that once housed an old distillery, nestled at the bottom of a garden. Laïa specializes in Mediterranean cuisine, offering a green oasis where you can enjoy lunch on their veranda, bathed in natural light. The setting features terracotta-tiled floors, wood-fired cooking, and an atmosphere of conviviality and joy. Laïa is open from Monday to Saturday, 12 PM to midnight, and is located at 226 Boulevard Voltaire in the 11th arrondissement.

3. L’Eldorado

Nestled within the Eldorado Hotel, this restaurant boasts a lush, hidden terrace. It’s the perfect spot if you’re seeking an elegant dining experience near the Sacré Coeur and Montmartre. The Eldorado offers refined French cuisine in an urban garden and courtyard pavilion setting, featuring eclectic decor rich with 19th-century embellishments and post-war touches. Griffon is a hybrid place between a coffee shop, a bar and a restaurant with a beautiful terrace . It is a restauant for lunch, a coffee shop in the afternoon and a bar with tapas in the evening.

Concealed behind a large metal gate, within a historic cobblestone courtyard, this spot is perfect for vintage bibelot enthusiasts. At the Griffon, the decor features an array of decorative objects and second-hand furniture sourced from flea markets across France. Situated in the heart of the Marais in the 4th arrondissement, this verdant haven, adorned with plants, creates a serene atmosphere.

5. Les Petites Mains

Are you searching for a restaurant with one of the most stunning views of the Eiffel Tower in a garden-like setting? Look no further. Les Petites Mains offers classic Mediterranean dishes made with seasonal ingredients in a tranquil and relaxing environment. Located inside the Palais Galliera at 10 Avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie in the 16th arrondissement, Les Petites Mains is perfect for gourmet enthusiasts seeking high-end, quality dishes that cater to their refined tastes.

6. La Petite Halle

La Petite Halle offers wood-fired pizza, bistro dishes, and cocktails in a chic industrial setting. Moreover, what I particularly love about this restaurant is its dual function as a jazz club. Each week, local and international musicians come to showcase their talent. Directly across from the restaurant is a garden. A spacious and serene area where you can relax and enjoy the sun. A place where you can grab a coffee, a refreshing drink, or a homemade fruit juice.

Furthermore, in the garden, there is also a bar and a pétanque court. In addition, there are deckchairs, a ping-pong table entirely laid out to welcome visitors. Find this gem at 211 avenue Jean Jaurès in the 19th arrondissement. The garden is ideal for parents with children that are looking for a place to rest, eat and get a drink. Wondering where to eat outside of Paris? Look no further than this restaurant below located West of Paris in the upscale suburban city of Rueil-Malmaison.

Les Hamptons

Les Hamptons restaurant specializes in grilled meats and fish, offering rotisserie, barbecue, and plancha options. To reach this gem, as stated above, you’ll need to venture outside the city. Take the suburban train RER A and exit at La Défense. From there, transfer to line L and get off at the Saint-Cloud train station. Then, take bus 467 and get off at Eglise de Buzenval (12 stops). The restaurant is just 300 meters from the bus stop. If you prefer not to take the bus, you can also opt for an Uber from the Saint-Cloud train station.

• 5 Pailles for pancakes, bacon and lattes enthusiasts.
• Sunday in Soho ( black owned) if you are into supporting black business. Reservation is highly recommended. American style breakfast.
• CaliUptown, American style. Try their avocado toast because I was glady surprised by it. It was really good.
• Café Mareva, gluten free. It is a great place to eat in the winter, however in the summer, take it to go and eat your food along the canal Saint Martin banks nearby.
• Nous Restaurant, world inspired style brunch. They have many locations throughout the city. Great choice for vegan brunch
• Le Petit Carillon French style
• Pinky Bloom near the Eiffel Tower, American style. The place is very small and as a result, the wait time can be really long especially on the weekends. Reservation is highly recommended.

This restaurant serves some amazing Senegalese dishes from Senegal. Each plate is served with so much love and you can taste the amazing flavors of this African country at every bite and for this reason, it is my favorite restaurant in Paris. Chez Arnaud

Located in a vibrant little street in the 19th arrondissement, this cozy restaurant with no big pretention has seen its shares of French/non French celebrities.

At Chez Arnaud, the decor is atypical, focusing on French cinema and vintage music. The owner is friendly, dynamic, and outgoing, aiming to make both you and his celebrity guests feel at home.

The service was impeccable; a smiling and friendly waiter greeted us, eager to ensure our lunch experience was truly memorable. This no-fuss cooking, featuring fresh produce and generous portions, all at a remarkably reasonable price, epitomizes excellent value for budget travelers. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! This establishment is one to visit and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Despite opting for the Fernandel pizza for two, named after the French actor, there are plenty of other enticing options available. While Chez Arnaud is cherished by locals, it also boasts a reputation for hosting famous guests. Among them are/were:

Three food delivery apps to use in Paris

When I am too lazy to cook or to go out, I turned to fooddelivery apps to get my gfood right to my door steps. It is convenient and easier than ever to get food delivery in Paris just like any other major cities out there. They are in no particular order:

UBER EATS

Most people are familiar with the American car service company Uber. However, the company also expanded in 2014 with its food delivery service. Ubereats makes it easier to order food from your local restaurants or fast food joint straight to your home.

Glovo

Glovo is another popular food delivery service application. Founded in Barcelona in 2015, it is a on demand courrier delivery service that delivers and pick ups products ordered through the app. It has about 39 millions of downloads.

Last but not least, I would like to introduce you to:

Deliveroo

The London based company founded by William Shu is the leader in food delivery in Paris. I mostly used it over the other two. While writing this post, I recall one experience I had with them over the summer. I had ordered two meals from one of my favorite restaurants. The delivery man couldn’t find my apt. On top of that, he had the last 2 digits of my phone wrong. Needless to say that he ended up not delivering my food. After calling the company customer service dept. to clear things up, I was refunded the full amount of my order.

Now that I have mentioned these three apps, you may ask “how can I get them? ” You have to install them on your phone.

How to install these apps these food delivery apps?

For Android users go to the Play Store. Type their name in the search box and download the app.

For Apple users, go to the Apple store. Enter their names in the search box and download the one you would like to install.

Conclusions

Eating out without leaving your apartment rental or hotel room in Paris has never been more easier thanks to these three food delivery apps. I am not a fan of the traditional French breakfast which consists of tartines ( toasted sliced bread ), coffee, croissants or a brioche. With this post, I would like to share with you some places where you can get a non traditional French breakfast that most Parisians like myself have come to love.

Café Mareva

I often go there because it is conveniently located but mostly because they serve gluten free /lactose free breakfast all day and brunch on weekends!

Tips: Get there before/after lunch time. The place is small so it fills up quickly.

5 Pailles

Another favorite of mine. I like going there because the staff is very caring and has great customer service skills. Plus the food is good! They have quite a nice option of dishes to choose from so it makes you wanna order more than just one meal.

Address: 79 rue du Faubourg Saint Denis, 75010 Paris.

Tips: The place is small so get there before/after lunch time.

Breakfast in America

Breakfast in America was founded by Craig Carlson, an American living in Paris. The idea came about when Mr. Carlson started missing the American breakfast that he was accustomed to. This diner style restaurant has become an institution in Paris and a favorite destination for many tourists. Although it is much more than breakfast, most people go there for breakfast.

Tips: Avoid going there on weekends. However, If you really have to go, get there early to avoid the wait!

Holybelly Café

This Australian coffee concept is brought to you by French owners, Sarah and Nico. Both lived in Melbourne, Australia, fell in love with the coffee culture there and decided to bring it to Paris. There are 2 locations on the same block. Holybelly 5 and Holybelly 19.

Address Holybelly 5: 5 rue Lucien Sampaix 75010, Paris. It serves comforting pancakes, eggs, sides, daily specials, porridge and so forth.. See picture below.

Tips: Although the place has 100 seats, due to Covid-19, seating is limited inside creating a long line at the door. Get there early!

Nestled in the trendy Marais neighborhood in Paris ‘4th district, this restaurant is a Paris gem. It is owned by famous chef Mauro Allegro who already owns a three * restaurant in Menton in the French Riviera. Expect high-end gourmet food prepared to suit your fancy taste buds.

4. Hotel Jules and Jim

Located in Paris’ trendy third district this cozy terrace may be small but it offers an oasis in between shopping especially on a hot summer day! Just past the front door and reception area and head over to the terrace. The menu is light in terms of appetizers but there are plenty of drinks to choose from.

5. Café A

Located in Paris 10th district in the trendy Canal Saint Martin neighborhood, this restaurant offers brunches on Saturday and Sunday in a idylique and vibrant atmosphere. On the weekends, guests get to enjoy a rich program of musical events. Could you see yourself having brunch there?

I love to travel, however often times, I am having a hard time finding non gluten eateries. If you are dealing with such issues when traveling, I totally understand your frustrations. With that in mind, I have decided to highlight three eateries in Paris, my hometown that will make eating and drinking more easier for you guys. In no particular order these restaurants are:

Café Mareva

They are serving breakfast all day. From gluten free pancakes/waffles to eggs, bacon and lactose free dishes, you will not be disappointed by their different menus choices. Don’t miss their weekend’s brunch. Skip the busy lunch time from noon to 2 pm. The place is small so seats are limited. Check them out here.

Les Petits Ruisseaux

Having a sweet tooth! this eatery offers lots of choices of savory and sweet crepes. Try the caramel and buttery crepe not pictured. It is definitely a winner in my book. They are open from Tuesday to Saturday. Check them out here.

Wild& The Moon

There are several locations around town. They offer 100 percent plant based, locally sourced, organic dishes and cold-pressed juices, smoothies, salads, superbowls, snacks etc… They also offer catering options and as well as a detox program. Check them out here.

When it comes to restaurans, Paris has nothing to envy to other European cities.

There is a large black /mixed race population in Paris and with that comes a variety of colorful dishes from many African countries. When it comes to flavorful and tasty dishes, Newsoulfood comes to mind. Their concept to fusion Cameroonian and French Caribbean dishes is a success.
