Where to get a public transportion card

To move around, you will need a public transporation card. You can get one at all the metro and train stations in Paris. You can choose to buy (the Navigo Easy card) with the option to pay as you go. Just pay 2 euros for the card and add money to it as you wish. Furthermore, you can opt for a Paris Visite travel pass depending on the number of days (1-5 days maximum) that you will be in town. This card only covers unlimited public transportation in zones 1-5 including all airports, the OrlyVal, Disneyland, Château de Versailles… It does not include sightseeing.

    Museums and Monuments Pass

As stated above, If you plan on moving around especially to visit museums and monuments, you have to purchase a museum pass. “The Paris Museum Pass” is your best option and gives you access to more than 50 monuments and museums. You can get this pass online on the official Paris Museum Pass website or at the Tourism information desk at:

    • Charles de Gaulle Airport
    • Orly Airport
    • Galeries La Fayette
    • Disneyland Paris
    • Major museums

Now that I have covered the metro and suburban station that will be closed, public transportation and museum passes, let’s talk about the best way for you to anticipate your trips.

How to best anticipate your trip

To best anticipate your trips, frequently check the RATP website or its app for the latest info on traffic. In addition, the roads will be busier than usual during the Olympics and it will be best to avoid them. If you are staying in the outskirts of Paris or in another region, leave the car alone and stick to public transportation. Visitors and locals are highly encouraged to not drive to the city before, during and right after the Olympics and Paralympics.

Furthermore, it will be difficult to move around by car in the cities located outside of Paris that will be welcoming some of the competitions. Those cities are:

    • Versailles
    • Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines
    • Saint Denis
    • Villepinte
    • Le Bourget
    • Colombes
    • Nanterre
    • Vaires-sur-Marne

    Walking restrictions

In certain areas of the city certain restrictions will be put in place. With such restrictions in place, residents and visitors staying in these areas might have to apply for a digital pass (Pass Jeux). This pass will allow you to circulate within the secure perimeters of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. To check to see if you might need one, check out the official website Pass Jeux for more information or ask the front desk receptionnist at your hotel. If you do not feel like dealing with any restrictions, there are plenty of things to see and to do in the districts that aren’t concerned by them.

    The districts with no restrictions

The 10,18, 19 and 20th districts are a sure choice. These districts although not centrally located have a lot to offer in terms of things to see, to do and places to eat. Wonderig what to do in the 19th arrondissement? Check out my guide on what to do in the 19th arrondissement here.

    Final thoughts

To sum things up, despite the challenges posed by closed perimeters, metro stations and driving restrictions, there are still numerous ways to thoroughly enjoy Paris during the 2024 Olympics.

Firstly, making good use of available public transportation options, including metro, buses and trams, can ensure smooth and convenient travel. Second, planning ahead can help you avoid unexpected delays and maximize your time in the city.

Romantic Paris: A Guide to Love and Solo Adventure
    Place duTertre in Montmartre

Paris may be the city of lights and love, nonetheless who said that Paris is only for lovers? That Paris is only for couples? Do you know that there are a lot of single people out there ? Some of them are single by choice while other simply because they haven’t found the right person. In this blog post, I highlight a guide to love and solo adventure in Paris. Yes a guide of romantic things that you can do solo without a mate.

Dating is hard and finding the right person to share your life with can be really complicated for some. As a woman, I have to say that dating is not easy. You meet a guy, you start talking, you like him and then you realize that things are not going to work. In addition, you have friends and family in your ear asking you what is wrong with you. You get what I am saying. In a nutshell, I want you to know that despite the romantic and picture perfect images of Paris that you see on the internet, Paris is for everyone.

Romantic Paris: A Guide to Love and Solo Adventure

Romantic Paris: A Guide to Love and Solo Adventure. Paris is a romantic destination even for single people. Do not let anyone convince you that it is only for couples or lovers. With that been said, let’s dive into a list of romantic things that you can do solo.

    Place du Tertre

Place du Terre is a vibrant square brimming with artistic energy and Parisian charm. As you step onto its cobblestone streets, you are immediately enveloped in a bustling atmosphere of creativity. Visitors wander among the stalls, observing the artists at work and perhaps even commissioning a personalized portrait or landscape. The square’s quaint cafes and bistros provide the perfect setting to pause and soak in the ambiance while admiring the lively street scene.

Located in Montmartre in the 18th district, the Place du Tertre is a painter’s dream. You have to walk quite a bit to get up there, however, it is worth it. Kindly note that due to some scams, If you want a portrait done by one of the many painters there, keep in mind that both parties have to agree on a price beforehand.

Ile Saint Louis in central Paris

Nestled in the heart of the Seine River, the Île Saint-Louis stands as a timeless testament to Parisian charm and beauty. This little island is a must destination for romantic at heart. Connected to the rest of the city by graceful bridges, this small island exudes an enchanting atmosphere that captivates visitors from around the world. Cobblestone streets wind between elegant 17th-century buildings adorned with colorful flower boxes, creating a picturesque setting straight out of a fairytale.

This backdrop makes it an ideal destination for the romantic at heart that you are. Walk along the banks and admire the serene waters of the Seine on your way to the majestic Notre Dame Cathedral. Take the time to stop at the quaint boutiques, artisanal ice cream parlors, and cozy cafes that line the streets for a full solo romantic experience.

    Pont des Arts

There are so many bridges in Paris. However this one is amongts the most visited. Why? Because it is called the love bridge. Every year couples from all over the world flock there to propose and seal their love by attaching a lock onto the bridge. Despite the removal of the locks on the bridge because they are weighing down the bridge, some tourists still attach them. I would advise that you do not do it. However, you can enjoy the beautiful surrounding around the bridge.

    The wall of love

The Wall of Love, or “Le Mur des Je t’aime,” located in Montmartre in the 18th arrondissment, embodies the essence of romance in Paris. Comprising over 300 square tiles, each adorned with the phrase “I love you” in over 250 languages, it serves as a symbol of love’s universal language. Couples from all corners of the globe flock to this spot to marvel at its artistic beauty and to declare their love in front of its mesmerizing display. However, it is also a beautiful site to see even if you are single. Keep in mind that you can experience a romantic and unforgettable experience in the heart of Paris regardless of your personal status.

    Seine River Cruise

I highly recommend a cruise on the Seine River especially if you are a first time traveler in Paris. Contrary to what you might think, you do not have to be in a relationship to go on a romantic cruise. It is one of the most romanting and beautiful things to do in Paris even solo. A cruise on the river will allow you to see many munuments such as Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, the Orangerie Museum from a distance but the view is so worth it.

Wander in the garden of the Musée Rodin

The garden of the Musée Rodin is one of my favorite gardens in Paris. Visiting the Garden of the Musée Rodin in Paris is an experience filled with beauty and tranquility. Firstly, as you step into the garden, you are immediately greeted by a sense of serenity. Transitioning from the bustling streets of Paris, the garden offers a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Secondly, the garden’s lush greenery and meticulously sculpted landscapes provide a picturesque backdrop for the museum’s iconic sculptures, seamlessly blending art with nature. Transitioning further into the garden, you encounter the masterpieces of Auguste Rodin, including his renowned works such as “The Thinker” and “The Kiss.” These sculptures, thoughtfully positioned amidst the foliage and pathways, invite contemplation and reflection, fostering a deeper connection to the art and the artist. Finally, as you wander through the garden, stop by the cafe to order a beverage. You can eiter sit indoor or enjoy the terrace for a moment of rest and quiet introspection.

    Visit the Romantic Life Museum

Despite its name, the Romantic Museum or le Museée de la Vie Romantique, is a must see. Visiting the Musée de la Vie Romantique in Paris offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and immerse oneself in the enchanting world of 19th-century Parisian romance. Nestled in the 9th arrondissement within a charming townhouse, this museum pays homage to the Romantic period through its collection of art, artifacts, and memorabilia. The museum’s exhibits showcase the lives and works of notable figures from the Romantic movement, including writers, artists, and musicians, offering insights into their relationships, inspirations, and contributions to the cultural landscape of Paris.

Take in the city view from a rooftop

The Veuve Cliquot summer rooftop at the Printemps Haussmann department store

If you would like to enjoy some of the best views of Paris because there are many, book a table at one of the many rooftops in the city. Check out these 6 locations below:

    Take a day trip

Romantic Paris: A Guide to Love and Solo Adventure. A day trip is a wonderful way to discover the villages and towns outside of the city. For day trips ideas on where to go and what to do, feel free to check these blog posts:

    Have an afternoon tea

An afternoon tea is not reserved only for the Brits. In Paris, there are plenty places where you can go for a tea time solo. Check out some of the locations in the city:

    • Ladurée Champs Elysées which recently opened
    • The Burgundy Hotel for For a fancy tea time

See the Eiffel Tower at night

Seeing the Eiffel Tower illuminated against the Parisian night sky is an experience that you have to see. As the sun sets and the city lights begin to twinkle, the iconic landmark transforms into a mesmerizing spectacle of shimmering lights and elegance. Whether viewed from across the Seine River or up close beneath its towering presence, witnessing the Eiffel Tower at night is an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of Paris’s timeless charm and beauty. Do you know that taking pictures of the Eiffel Tower cat night can get you in trouble. Find out more about it here.

Treat yourself to a nice dinner

Just because you are solo does not mean that you cannot treat yourself to a nice dinner. If you want to dress up and go eat at a fancy restaurant, do it. I am aware that some people do not feel comfortable dining alone and I get that. Life is too short to wait for the perfect man or woman to treat yourself to the best things of life. I say, get rid of that fear and book that restaurant. For a fancy restaurant in a 5*hotel, check out this restaurant located at the Brach Hotel. I was recently there solo and I enjoyed my time there.

    Conclusion

Paris is indeed the city of romance and of love, however, do not let that stop you from visiting it. Paris is also a city with lots of single people that aren’t afraid to do things solo. This blog post, “Romantic Paris: A Guide to Love and Solo Adventure” is meant to encourage you. To motivate you to visit romantic cities such as Paris despite being single. Do not expect to get a seat as most invitation will say “STANDING”, however, you might get one if a guest is absent.

How to see a paying fashion show

Some designers have found a way to jump on the excitement and the demand of the public to attend fashion shows by selling tickets. If you are open to that idea, this is a great way to meet people, see beautiful clothes, models, meet the designers and attend the after party.

At this point, now that I have covered some of the free events to do during the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, I would like to share a few Paris travel tips to enhance your experience in the vibrant city of lights and make your stay truly memorable.

Summer Olympic transportation to travel to the games

If you’re in the city of lights to attend your favorite olympic events, competitions or cheer on your preferred athlete, a Paris Visite Travel Pass is essential. Furthermore, for more details, visit the RATP, the official Paris transit transportation agency. Moreover, RATP oversees the metro, buses, trams, as well as the RER B and RER A suburban lines.

    Arriving from the airport

If you intend to arrive at CDG (Charles de Gaulle), you can opt for the RER B, which will transport you directly to Gare du Nord and subsequently to central Paris (Chatelet-Les Halles) train station and metro stations. Once there, you can conveniently switch to lines 1 (heading towards the Marais), 4, and 14 to seamlessly continue your journey to your final destination.

Furtermore, if you’re intending to arrive at Orly Airport, it’s worth noting that the ongoing construction work to extend line 14 to Orly Airport will soon be finished. Additionally, it’s important to be aware that during the Olympic and Paralympic games, the price of a single metro ticket will increase from 2.10 to 4.20 euros. Consequently, it’s highly advisable to purchase your tickets prior to the opening ceremony.

As a bonus tip, make sure to wear comfortable shoes for your metro rides and retain your metro ticket throughout your journey. Should you plan on using single metro tickets during your stay, never discard them, as transportation controls are rigorous. These controllers uphold zero tolerance for individuals without tickets, so be sure to keep yours until you’ve completed your journey.

How to get last minutes tickets for the Paris Olympics and Paralympics

If you’re planning to attend the games but haven’t secured any tickets yet, be sure to visit the official ticketing website of the Paris 2024 games. As of my last check, there are still tickets available for various sports events within the Paris metropolitan area including:

Unfortunately, for the top things to see ( competitions) at the Paris Olympics 2024 such as swimming and artistic gymnastics, there are no tickets available for the Olympics. For the Paralympics games, there are tickets available.

In addition, you can still book travel packages. These packages include:

    • Olympic Games Tickets + Accommodations at 3 and 4* hotels
    • Public Transport
    • Gift
    • Salon 24
    • Special Events
    • City Pass and/or Curated Tours depending on the Package.

You can book your travel packages here.

Olympic and Paralympics events venues in/outside Paris

A significant number of the Olympic event venues chosen are easily reachable via public transportation and Uber. These venues include:

    • Bercy Arena in the 12th district or arrondissement
    • Grand Palais in the 8th arrondissement
    • Roland Garros Stadium in the 16th arrondissement
    • South Paris Arena 6 in the 15th arrondissement
    • Stade de France (Saint Denis, outside of Paris)
    • Arena Porte de la Chapelle in the18th district
    • Stade de France in Saint-Denis
    • La Défense Arena outside of Paris
    • Château de Versailles
    • Invalides
    • La Concorde
    • Stade Tour Eiffel

    Learn basic French

Learn a few key French phrases. Most French people do speak English, however, if you want to impress them, a few words in French might come in handy. Learn how to say the basics such as:

    • Bonjour ( good morning)
    • Merci (thank you)
    • Madame ( Ms and Mrs)
    • Monsieur (sir)
    • S’il vous plaît ( please)
    • Je m’appelle… (my name is)
    • Je viens de ( I come from…)

Every interaction should start with a “bonjour”. Trust me, it is rude not to greet someone. I often hear French people calling out people for not saying “Bonjour”.

    Have cash for convenience

While most establishments accept cards, it’s worth noting that some don’t accept them for purchases below 10 euros. Hence, it’s advisable to carry cash as a backup. Additionally, in France, we use euros, so please ensure you have your cash ready before arriving in Paris or any other French cities this summer. Keep in mind that transaction fees on foreign exchange can incur additional costs.

You might even be fortunate enough to see the fabulous spectacle of the bridge rising to let a boat pass. During that time, pedestrians can cross the canal thanks to an over pass bridge.

Cité des enfants (City of Children)

The Cité des enfants is open to young children from 2-7, and covers 1,700 m² divided into five themed areas. Moreover these specifically areas are:

    • Je me découvre ( Discovering myself)
    • J’experimente ( I experiment)
    • Je sais faire ( I can do)
    • Tous ensemble ( all together)
    • Je me repère ( I find my way)

The first three themes focus on children’s physical, cognitive, and spatial development. The next two emphasize opening up to the world and to others.

Moreover, to help adults find their place in this space, pictograms invite parents to play with their child, encourage and observe them.

Additionally, many activities are accessible with Braille texts for blind parents.

Cité de la Musique ( Philarmonie des enfants)

The Cité de la Musique is a space dedicated to children aged 4 to 10 providing them with opportunities to play, explore, listen, experience, and feel music. In this space, children are invited to embark on a journey through thematic universes where they encounter:

    Paris Plages

Every summer, there are 2 locations that welcome Paris plage with another one scheduled to open in the 10th arrondissement summer 2024. One of those locations is in the 19th arrondissement. What is Paris Plages? Paris Plages is a summer operation run by the Paris City Council since 2002. In 2007, they extended it to the 19th arrondissement at the Lavillette Bassin. The main objective is to give local residents who don’t go on vacation the opportunity to enjoy activities that are usually practiced on coastal beaches. During that time, locals and tourists enjoy a multitude of activities, both on land and in the water. From simple lounging on deckchairs to ephemeral swimming pools, there’s something for everyone.

In addition, there are exhibitions, sports classes, an open-air library, and much more…And best of all, all these activities are free for adults and little ones. Moreover, there are also restaurants in the neighborhood where you can eat, get a drink and have a great time with your children.

Paris Plages is located at the Bassin de la Villette and is accessible by Metro 2&5 to Jaurès or metro 5 to Laumière.

    Canal de L’Ourcq

The Canal de l’Ourcq forms a crucial component of the Paris canal network. Originating from the Ourcq, it extends to the Villette district in the East of Paris. Additionally, during the summer, Parisians partake in various leisure activities along the canal.

Now that you have a pretty good idea of the richness of the 19th arrondissement and the things that you could do with your children, let’s dive into two more important things, acommodations and where to eat.
