Don’t let a rainy day ruin your vacation. There are still plenty of things to do even if you have to pull out the umbrella and the rain coat. In this blog post, I will share with you guys 14 museums and librairies that you can visit on a rainy day in Paris.

Museums

The city of Paris owns 14 museums. They are all different from one another and that is what makes them the perfect place to spend some time on a rainy day. Some even have coffee shops where you can stop to grab a warm beverage and recharge in between collections.

These 14 museums are:

  • Maison Balzac
  • Musée Bourdelle (one of my favorites) because I get to do some pottery for free at the end of the visit. Sign up for it.
  • Museum of Modern Art
  • Musée Carnavalet that retrace the story of Paris
  • Les Catacombes-Paris Catacombs Museum
  • Crypte archéologique de l’île de la Cité
  • Musée Cernuschi- Asian Art Museum
  • Musée Cognac-Jay, museum of the XVIII century
  • Musée du Général Leclerc-General Leclerc muséum of liberation and Jean Moulin
  • Palais Galleria-Fashion Museum
  • Petit Palais-Beaux Art Museum
  • Musée de La Vie Romantique-Romantic Life Museum
  • Maison de Victor Hugo-Victir Hugo Museum
  • Musée Zadkine-Zadkine Museum

Libraries

There are lots of librairies located throughout Paris. You can walk in, relax in a big chair, read books, magazines and newspapers. You can also enjoy the work of local artists showcasing their artwork for free. Definitely one of my favorite things to do. I love librairies guys. I recommend you check out the

Louise Walser-Gaillard (Chaptal) located in the 9th arrondissement. This former residence turned library is simply stunning. The house which was renovated didn’t loose its old charm and will definitely get your attention. Once inside, take a moment to enjoy the ceiling. It is a piece of art.

  • Médiatheque Violette Leduc located in the 11th district. It plans every month free activities for children and host many local artists and exhibits. Take your kids there to watch short movies.
