Travel has become such an important aspect in my wellness journey. By traveling I don’t mean to go from one part of the world to the the other extremity of the world. Find things in your area or nearby that can help you relax, recharge and get back in shape to tackle life’s trials. In this blog post, I will share with you guys 6 benefits of traveling for mental wellness.

Before we dive into this topic let us define what we mean by mental wellness.

What is mental wellness

Mental wellness is according to Samhealth.org a “positive state of mental health. When we keep a positive outlook on life we are less likely to let the trials of life get the best of us. We realize that we can

  • Better cope with difficulties
  • Have better relationships with others
  • Be more productive
  • physically less
  • Reduce stress

I think that you guys would agree that when you feel better mentally everything fall easily in place. Now that we sent over the definition of mental wellness, let see what are the 6 benefits of traveling for mental wellness.

Traveling allow us to:

  • Discover new cultures
  • Meet new people
  • Try different food
  • Enhance world culture and knowledge
  • Become creative
  • Be happy

Discover new culture is good for our mental wellness

When we discover new cultures, we realize that the world is not only about us and what we thought it was. I started traveling at a young age and as a result, I was able to have a bigger picture of the world around me.

Meet new people

When I lived abroad, I was able to make lots of new friends from different parts of the world. Some of my friends come from:

  • Mexico
  • Jamaica
  • USA
  • South Africa
  • South America

All these people that I consider to be some of my closest friends thought me so much about embracing others that come from a different place than I.

Try different food

Letme tell you as a French girl, I grew up eating cheese, baguettes, duck and rabbit just to name a few of my faivorite things to eat. While traveling I discovered new ways of cooking and eating. I wan’st accustome to eat oxtails, festivals, pepper shrimp, jerk chicken until I started eaating at Jamaican restaurants in New York City. Since then, I am a big fan of Jamaican cuisine.

Enhance world culture and knowledge

I was used to see really one kind of people around e grouwing up. Once I started moving around the globe, I started to learn more about others way of life, tradition, closthing style and so forth… which gives me a broader picture of the world at large thus enhancing what I thought I new about some cultures

Become creative

I think that many of us would snot have a problem sayin that we fhave been inspired by what we saw and learned from other cutlures. In the world we live in fashion designers get their inspirations from many cultures around the world wich allows them to get their creative juices flowing and keep customers asking for more.

Be happy

Aren’t you happy when you go away whether it is for a weekend , a few days, weeks or months? When you feel joy, do you know that several areas of our brain is activated? It is also been said that when we are ahppy our stress level decreases and we are less likely to get sick, our skin glows and our overall well-being is good.

Final thoughts

The benefits of traveling for mental wellness is something that we need to consider if we want to live a more meaningful life. It enriches our lives and help us create so many happy memories and life experiences.     I absolutely agree that traveling benefits my mental health! For all the reasons you mention, of course, as well as to have go-to places to meditate on when I’m not traveling. 👣

      Traveling is so good for the mind and body. It doesn’t have to be costly. A quick stay in a hotel nearby or going camping can do so much for our mental health. Thank you so much for your input.
