What are thrift shops called in Paris?
If you want to find thrift shops in Paris, you have to know what we call them. A thrift shop in France is called a “friperie”. If you are planning a trip to Paris than it is important that you know how it is spelled in French. Now that you know how to say it and how to spell it, it will be easier for you to spot one while out and about. Here’s a few other French words that you might see and that pretty much mean the same thing:
- Seconde main ( second hand)
- Vêtements d’occasion
Is thrifting great in Paris?
Yes if you ask me. Most shops have some really nice and unique pieces and that is what makes thrifting exciting. The drawback is that it can get really busy in some of these shops especially with tourists. However, if you are a thrifting afficionado than you already know that you have to be patient if you want to scoop a nice quality garment.
Where to find thrift shops in Paris?
The Marais is well-known for friperies and vintage shops. They are pretty much within the same block so it makes it easier to go from one store to the next. I find the Marais overcrowded which makes it difficult at times to move around. When I want some peace and quiet time to shop, I go to a cute little friperie located in the 20th arrondissement. More on that down below.

My favorite thrift shop in Paris
As I stated above, when I need some tranquility, I go to the 20th arrondissement. My favorite shop for second hand clothes is located in an area called, “the Village Charonne”. It is in a cute little neighborhood with a village feel away from major and busy street corners. The shop name is “Comeback Friperie” and it is not listed online nor on social media. I like it because I can shop in peace, talk to the owner and take my time to walk around. If you would like to pay her a visit, feel free to do it. Take a look down below at some of her gems.
Comeback Friperie is located at 51 Rue des Orteaux, 75020 Paris. Metro: line 9, exit at Buzenval. Take Rue Buzenval, then walk to rue des des Orteaux. This shop accepts CASH ONLY.
