It’s no secret that most of our travel funds go into flights and hotel accommodations. If you can eliminate or seriously cut back on your sleeping expenses and spending budget, traveling will be more than manageable and gratifying. Down below, I will share with you 7 tips to save you money while visiting Paris.
TRY COUCH SURFING
Do you know someone that is currently living in Paris or that knows people there that can let you crash on their sofa for a few nights once it will be safe to do so?
FREE MUSEUMS/MONUMENTS
If you happen to find yourself in Paris on the first Sunday of the month between October and March, most of the city’s major museums offer free admission. That means visiting your favorite museum for free. Also in September for a weekend, many momunments are accessible free of charge. Read more about it here.
FREE WATER
Remember that water is free! When you order water at a restaurant, make sure you ask for tap water.
GRAB LUNCH AT OUTDOORS MARKETS
Paris has lots of markets including outdoor/ ones around town. If you want to save big money on meals, head to one of them instead of restaurants. Look out for vendors selling regional dishes.
TRAVEL LIGHT
Nobody wants to pay extra money for over weight luggages. Check out my post on how you can travel light here.
TWO GOOD TO GO APP
Speaking of food, this app is one of my favorites to use in my every day life. I use it frequently and I haven’t been disappointed so far. Here is the concept. It was created to prevent food waste. At the end of each day, restaurants, shops, supermarkets have left over of fruits, veggies, food, etc… they cannot keep for the next day or that are getting close to their expiration date. Instead of throwing their left over, they allow people to come pick them up at a fraction of the original price. With that said, if you would like to try it, follow these easy steps. First download the app. Android users go to Google Play. For Apple users, check out if it is available in the Apple store.
Create an account by entering your personal info. Once that is done, sign in.
Enter your zip code.
Let’s say that you are in a hotel in Paris 6th arrondissement, put that zip code 75006 in. A list of all the participating shops/restaurants/local market vendors will appear. Pick the one closer to your location then place your order. It will tell you at what time to pick up your grocerie bag. To get your bag, go to the information desk if you are picking it up at a supermarket and tell them that you are here to pick up your bag and give them your name.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Last but not least, get a good travel insurance. If there is one thing that frequent travelers know well is to pay extra to be at peace in case of a sudden emergency.
