That is a question that a lot of travelers have when they come to Paris, France.
I personally don’t drive. However, I know many people that do. Like in major big cities, driving in Paris can be a nightmare. As a pedestrian, I have seen many drivers driving recklessly thus putting other lives at risk.
Honestly, Paris has an extensive metro, bus, tramway, and inter-city train networks that allow us to get around easily between most places. So even if you decide to drive, you probably will not use a car much during your stay. You can also use a bicycle like most Parisians do.
If you really want to drive in the city, keep in mind that driving in a foreign country comes with some guidelines and regulations just like in your home country.
You need a valid permit and passport to drive. Failure to show proof of proper identity, insurance and permit will land you in serious troubles. If you need more info on this matter, I will suggest you to check the French Consulate website in your country/state or do a Google search.
