I would describe myself as the queen of traveling light. In the past, I used to pack so many clothes to end up not even wearing them. No more!
I went to Johannesburg, South Africa 3 years ago and I had too many clothes in my luggage. Went to New York City 2 years ago and I had way too many clothes. It took a trip from New York City Port-Authority to Union Station, Washington D.C. for me to realize that traveling light is possible. Here a few tips on how you can do it.
Plan ahead your wardrobe with a packing list.
Don’t fold your clothes
Roll them.
Get a scale
Always weight your luggage before leaving.
Electronic addict
Pack a lightweight tablet instead of a laptop when possible.
Pack a pair of cute walking/comfortable shoes.
You don’t have to sacrifice being cute over comfort. There are lots of options for cute and comfy shoes out there.
Luggage
When hunting for a luggage, pick one of a smaller size. The smaller it is, the less things you can put in it.
Toiletries
Get travel size toiletries if you don’t want to use those offered by hotels.
Jewelry
Keep your jewelry to the basic. No need to pack a whole jewelry box.
Outwear
Go for ligthweight outwear because fall/winter coats/jackets often times require lots of room in your luggage.
Now that you are done packing, don’t forget to smile because now you can catch your plane sereine knowing that you will not be caught paying a penny for extra weight.
