Traveling to a new contry is exciting but it is also important to research that destination before hand to prevent any faux pas. With that said, here’s the list of the six common mistakes that I have seen people do.

Assume that everyone speaks English

Six commom mistakes not to make in Paris. The main language of France is French so do not get offended if you run into someone that does not speak English or your language. Instead of assuming, how about you gently ask that person, ” excusez-moi, est-ce-que vous parlez anglais? “

Sign any petitions on the streets

If you are visiting Paris for the first time, kindly keep in mind that there are many con artists looking for unsuspected travelers to con them. One of their tactics is to ask you to sign a petition for charity purposes. Do not do it. While they are busy trying to get you to sign it, one of their accomplices is already grabing your valuables.

Come with your bad behavior

Just because a way of talking, dressing, addressing or even direspect people is okay to do in your country does not mean that it is okay to do it in someone else’s country. That is why researching the country your plan on to visit before your trip is important.

Pack too many activities to do in one day

Paris is a big city, do not pack too many activities in one day. I recommend at least five days in Paris to give you the time to explore the city and get to know a bit more about French culture. You can also during that time plan a day trip outside of the city. You might like these posts:

Miss out on African and French West Indian cuisine

Most people are not aware that French cuisine is also French West Indian cuisine. The flavors and the spices used are different but let me tell you the food is delicious. Looking for a French West Indian cuisine restaurant to try in Paris? Check out one of my favorite restaurants Caffé Créole in the 11th arrondissement.

Furthermore, Paris has a thriving African community which dishes will get you asking for more. Dio not leave the city without at least trying one. One of my favorite African restaurant serving traditional Senegalese cusine is Walifay. Please check them out, if you are ever in Paris.

Forget to greet locals with “bonjour” morning and “bonsoir’ in the evening

It is safe to say that regardless of where we come from greeting people before to engage in a conversation with them is common sense. You should always greet people according to local customs to prevent any misunderstandings.

Eat at restaurants in touristic areas

If you are traveling on a budget, keep in mind that restaurants in busy touristic areas of Paris will cost you more than a local neighborhood eat in a non fancy/touristic neighboorhod. Plan accordingly.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I hope that this blog post on the six common mistakes not to make in Paris will help you better plan your trip but also have a wonderful time in the city of Lights.
