I thought that I would revive an old post of mine. Traveling for the first time to a new city is exciting and fun. We are eager to put down our luggages and go explore it. However, moving around can be a bit scary and frustrating especially if you don’t speak the local language. Planning to visit Paris? This blog post will tell you more about Paris and its 20 districts.
Paris Zip Code area is 75. The city is divided into 20 districts that we call (arrondissements). The number of the arrondissement is the last two digits of the zip/postal code. For example: 75001 means first district or first arrondissement. 75002 means second district and so forth… Paris is shaped like a snail. Which means it goes in circle (see picture below) .
If you are looking for an apartment or a hotel in central Paris, the 1,2,3 and 4th districts or arrondissements are where you should start looking for accommodations.
The 1, 2, 3 and 4 districts are very posh and chic. They are considered to be the oldest districts. The other ones were built around them. It is where prestigious fashion brands have their boutiques, offices and held their fashion shows. The Louvre Museum is located in the first district.
The 5, 6, 7, 8, attract people with a higher income bracket. The 8th district is where you can find one of the most expensive avenues in the world, the Champs Elysées.
The 9, 10, 11, 12 are for the cool, hip, bohemian chic, tattooed and grungy. They formed the party scene. That is where the young people, professionals and tourists gather to have a good time in town. That is where you would find most bars, restaurants, coffee shops, night clubs, cool shops and concert halls.
The 13, 14, 15, 16 are more residential. People enjoy them because they are not as populated as other parts of the city and offer a better quality of life away from the crowds and bursling noise. Celebrities, the wealthy and CEO of big companies tend to buy properties in the 16th district. Also Chinatown is located in the 13 th district.
Except for the South part of the 17 district, the 17, 18, 19 and 20 are gentrified neighborhoods. The population is more cosmopolite. Rent is generally more affordable. Little Africa is located in the 18th district. The scenery is very different from the rest of the city although there are lots of charming and beautiful streets.
Hope this help you move around the city easily. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment.
