France Travel: A Few Facts About France

In my last blog post, I talked about traveling to France without having a car. I personnally don’t drive and it hasn’t stopped me for moving around. I am currently living in Paris and the great thing about living in Paris is that you can pretty much go anywhere from there.

With that said, you don’t need much to see France and its many beautiful regions. Here is a few facts about France that I hope will help you pictured it a bit better.

France has about 66 million people

There are 13 regions in mainland France and 5 outside of France for a total of 18.

The 5 regions outside of mainland France are:

The French population is very diversed contrary to what you may have seen on Tv, magazines and newspapers.

The curency is Euros

The Capital city is Paris

The five biggest cities of France are in order:

  • Paris
  • Marseille

The wonderful thing about these cities is that from Paris it is just a matter of getting a train ticket to be on your way out. Do you know that you can be in Lyon in 1 hour, Marseille in 4 hours, Toulouse in 4h16 min and Nice in 6 hours. Tickets can be very affordable if you plan early. I usually get my train tickets on our national railway company called la SNCF. Check them out here.
