I am taking you guys on a walk to discover the southern part of the 20th district.
I departed from rue Alexandre Dumas in the 11th district until I arrive at the Avron metro station. From there, I deambulated into the streets with my phone in hand taking pictures along the way while trying to get a feel of a neighborhood that I never took the time to really appreciate.
The area that I was in is called “Village Charonne” a former village that became part of Paris in 1860 and used to be surrounded by vineyards. With its low-level houses, little impasses (like the impasse Poule) on the picture down below, its medieval church, mom and pop’s shops and cozy streets, this village hasn’t lost its old charm.
If you plan to come to the city of lights and would like to see a different side of the city, by all means take a detour to the 20th district and see for yourself all of its hidden treasures.
Feel free to read more on the Village Charonne here. How to get there? There are many ways. You can start by taking line 2 of the metro and get off at Père Lachaise. You can also come out of the Philippe Auguste metro station on line 2, walk up to rue Pierre Bayle. At the end of the street, turn right into rue du Repos which runs alongside the wall of the Père Lachaise cemetery. As for I, I started my trip by walking to Avron then contiued on to rue des Vignoles by stopping in between streets and impasses.
