France has long been renowned for forming some of the best culinary chefs in the world including pastry ones. No trip to Paris is complete without tasting some of our beloved pastries. In this blog post, I will tell you about 10 pastries that you should try in Paris . In no particular order, here’s my list of 10 pastries to try in Paris.
Pain au chocolat or chocolate bread
It is similar in texture to a puff pastry with one or two pieces of dark chocolate in the middle. It is rich in butter and chocolate but boy that bad boy taste good!
Eclair
Made in a crisp and oblong shape then filled with vanilla, coffee, chocolate and other flavors. Although the chocolate one is a fan favorite, however, it comes with different fillings and flavors.
L’ile flottante or floating island in English
It is a meringue floating on creme anglaise. You have to take a piece, dip it in the creme and let it melt in your mouth. Just delicious!
Croquembouche or croque-en-bouche
It is consisting of choux pastry puffs piled into a cone and bound with threads of caramel.
Raisin bread
It looks like a cinnamon roll with but the taste is definitely not the same.
Millefeuille
It is made up of three layers of puff pastry alternating with two layers of pastry cream. The top pastry layer is also layered with cream.
Macarons or macaroons
A smooth round circle which is mildly moist and easily melts in the mouth. They come in a wide variety of flavours and colors.
Les Profiteroles or cream puff in English
It is a filled French chou pastry ball with a moist filling of whipped cream, ice cream, pastry cream. It is often garnished with chocolate or caramel sauce with powdered sugar.
Crêpes Suzette
Consisting of crêpes with beurre /butter, a sauce of caramelized sugar and butter drenched in a tangerine or orange juice. It is sometimes top with vanilla ice cream.
Clafoutis
A baked French dessert of fruit traditionally made with black cherries, arranged in a buttered dish and covered with a thick flan-like batter.
In conclusion, I hope these 10 French pastries will make you want to try them for yourself and see why thry are so beloved in France. I usually like to pair my desert with a cup of unsweetened tea.
